Zonulin testing is uded for testing intestinal permeability (“Leaky Gut”).
“Leaky Gut” is a condition that occurs when the gut lining becomes abnormally permeable, allowing bacteria, food and other large molecules to pass through. A major controller of this gateway is Zonulin, a protein found in intestinal cells. Zonulin testing is a very useful first line screening test in beginning to paint a portrait of an individual’s gut status.
